Overview:
The Tucson Women’s Chorus is searching for an Artistic Director. We are currently a multi-generational singing group of 40-45 women dedicated to celebrating all women's voices in a vibrant, reflective, and joyful singing community. We welcome women of all backgrounds, including LGBTQ, diverse cultural identities, and any level of prior musical experience. We do not hold auditions, and we support singers who learn by ear and/or by reading music. We take pride in the process of making music together and we embrace musical challenges. We sing for the joy of it, and to connect with each other, with our Tucson community, and with a wide world of human experience.
Ours is a nonprofit organization, led by the Artistic Director in collaboration with the Board of Directors. The Artistic Director makes decisions about music, inviting suggestions and possibly compositions from members.
Outside of rehearsals, members host potlucks and small group practices, across sections as well as within them. The Director is welcome to participate or not, but will embody these principles of our community in her teaching and directing:
Everyone belongs
All voices are heard
Each singer is working to get better
We sing for joy and connection to each other and our community
We love a challenge

Determine theme for each series at the beginning of the fiscal year and invite musical suggestions from singers. Director has final say over the program.
Select a program of songs for each series that promotes reflection on the theme, challenges us as singers, and may connect us with ourselves and community
Offer resources for members to explore th e historical/cultural context and meaning of songs as appropriate
Create or purchase digital rehearsal tracks for all parts and upload to Chorus Connection before first series rehearsal
Conduct rehearsals, teaching songs so that singers who do and do not read music may learn them
Send a brief weekly message to singers about how to prepare for the upcoming rehearsal
Design and conduct concert performances
Collaborate with the Board to organize a performance schedule including fall and spring series performances and smaller periodic outreach performances
Plan, manage, and conduct concert performances as scheduled, including hiring and supervision of budgeted supporting musicians, guest artists, ensembles, and soloists

BA or advanced degree in Music with emphasis on choral conducting, or three to five years equivalent experience
Experience working with a community-based chorus with singers having a wide range of musical skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
